Summary

Eating disorders and substance use concerns are frequently underreported when clients are reaching out for care in general outpatient settings. It's not uncommon for counselors who don't specialize in these issues to find themselves unsure of how to proceed when these issues become apparent barriers to treatment goals.

In this webinar we'll address common questions and concerns for counselors who don't specialize in Eating Disorders or Substance Use Disorders including accurate diagnosis, referral options, and how to build a care team.

  1. Identify assessment strategies to identify eating disorders and substance use concerns early in treatment.
  2. Distinguish between clinical and sub clinical presentations of eating disorder and substance use disorders.
  3. Determine ways to address disordered eating such as diet talk, body checking, and internalized fat phobia.
  4. Examine common stumbling blocks when confronting problematic eating and substance use behaviors.
